Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime.
– Lao Tze, Chinese philosopher
Piccolo New York is passionately involved in supporting Zimele, a non-profit organization that helps communities in South Africa. Zimele helps confront the root causes of poverty by working with one woman and one community at a time, empowering them with the skills, resources and support networks to start businesses and social service projects to sustain themselves.
In Zulu, “Zimele” means “to stand on one’s own two feet”. Our vision is to offer long term solutions to people in these impoverished areas, rather than short term ones. We believe in empowering them through various programs, while building a sense of community, accountability, and justice for women and children. Our goal is to build hope. Join us on April 27th at the Zimele Gala, for an exciting evening of dinner, cocktails, multimedia presentations and inspirational speakers, hosted by Angela Robinson from the OWN series ‘The Haves and the Have Nots’. And while you’re there, check out our Piccolo New York scarves that we’re auctioning off to raise funds for the work in South Africa. Hope to see you there!
